ARTIST STATEMENT
Having lived in the New York City metropolis for nearly two decades, I’ve enjoyed meeting people from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Their personas and ways of life permeate my figurative work. In particular, I enjoy interacting with the many people I meet, and I express my feelings about them through my crass and somewhat naïve style. I portray my everyday life in New York City through this expressionistic series of paintings. A simplistic and at times erotic palette of anthropomorphic figures make up the graphic elements of these energized compositions. From original sketches, created during automatic drawing sessions with close friends at late-night haunts, I render people, aliens, animals and other surreal fauna in layers of colorful paint. Through this figurative process, I explore different concepts of self, other and community.
